Irina Shayk
By Kacy
Hello Readers,
I’ve thought that Irina Shayk has had the long torso/ short leg proportion for awhile now, but I thought I was alone until I saw someone in the comments say the same thing. So I now have the confidence to try write a post on her.
You might recognize her from the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition this year, after appearing in it for the past FIVE years. Because of her long torso, she has the small waist that goes with it, and the automatically sexy body that goes with that. Like Lady Short Legs said before, we have what seems to be the preferred swimsuit model body type. :)
Oh and she’s dating Cristiano Ronaldo. Some think he’s greasy, I personally think he is a pretty darn handsome athlete. Either way, he has his pick of the ladies from all over the world, and he picks the long torso/ short legged Irina!
Note by LSL: Irina has a great body without a doubt, however her legs are average and her torso longish, especially the waist/pelvis area. You can see how the space form her belly button to her crotch is lengthy, and she also has a sort of low seated butt, as in not a high prominent one that begins at her tail bone, but a lower and flatter one starting from below her tail bone. I think this may be a common feature with us girls, well at least mine is that way. As I have said before, working on our Gluteus(buttock) muscles really can do a great deal to even out our proportions, or at least we can arch our back more (as models do) for an "S" curve appearance.
Ok. Hold on. I'm pretty obsessive with the whole long torso/short legs concept. I know all types of statistics/calculations related to this, and I can spot anyone in a picture/on the street with these type of proportions. My obsession probably sources from the constant thought that I have these proportions although everybody (family, friends, etc) think I am crazy lol! Plus, my calculations suggest otherwise, but I am still not convinced haha! I really do believe I have at least a mild disproportion.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, with that said, I do not think this model has these proportions.
Her torso is long but her legs match her torso. I think this blog has had a couple of misses lately...
Bathing suit pictures that show legs can be so deceptive because models tend to try and disguise the fact they are standing on their toes. In the 3rd picture, her heel is probably elevated, making her legs look longer. She does have a long torso with average legs, and for these proportions I think she deserves to be on here.
ReplyDeleteEh it's debatable. If she has a disproportion it's slight.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the first poster. If anything she just has an awkwardly high belly button. In the third picture (wearing a low-rise bikini, mind you) her torso looks very in proportion to her legs. Yes, she's bending the front one to make it look longer but the back one is straight.
ReplyDeletekacy wrote regarding model irina shayk, "Because of her long torso, she has the small waist that goes with it, and the automatically sexy body that goes with that. Like Lady Short Legs said before, we have what seems to be the preferred swimsuit model body type."
ReplyDeletekacy, i beg your pardon and respectfully so, but long torsos do not necessarily equal small waists. i will defer from commenting that long torso and short legs automatically translates to a sexy body since that is a matter of personal preference. although scientific studies seem to point to the opposite of your view in terms of what men find sexy. i'm not saying which body type i personally find attractive and each body type has it's merits. for instance when women start to gain weight, pound for pound, women with short torsos look bigger in their mid-section than their long waisted sisters. the later have more torso area for fat distribution.
my biggest disagreement is that short legs and the long torso combination is the preferred swimsuit model body type. this is quite the contrary. i'm not saying that a spectacularly beautiful and/or popular model with long torso and short legs aren't booked for swimsuits. i'm talking about 'preferred' model types for swimsuit modeling assignments. i should know. i booked and scouted models for top modeling agencies in nyc for 15 years and have worked in the fashion industry for over 20. this is what model agents and clients look for when hiring models for swimsuit spreads as well as for runway and lingerie modeling (high fashion editorial spreads are a bit different...). i digress. this is what we look for in swimsuit models: tall. broad shoulders. a definite bust is a must but not over the top - this is not a men's magazine shoot after all. short to short-ish torso. tiny trim waist. mile long long, did i say long? long legs. think the exaggerated barbie doll figure. think giselle brundchen. think elle macphereson. think tyra banks. this body proportion is especially photogenic and a necessity on the beach where the girls are usually not wearing heels and they may sink somewhat into the sand, or the water is covering part of her legs which all results in losing precious leg inches. having said this, ALL bodies are beautiful. especially when one plays up the positives and downplay the negatives. and having worked with models for most of my professional career, the poor beauties are the most insecure bunch you'll ever sadly meet. it's just the reality of the cruel world of the fashion industry.
i just randomly came across your blog looking at photos of bar rafaeli and i was suprised at her proportion. never thought there is a whole blog devoted to short legs. i would have never thought there are so many SL(SHORT-LEGGED) celebrities to keep the blog goin. take a look at zuzana from bodyrock.tv. her torso is amazing. very short legs. there is too many pix of her out there. but in most u cant see her legs really. good cam angles
ReplyDeleteZuzana is actually a really good example of the shorter leg body type.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree about Zuzana. Take a look at this picture:

Hi there! I'm so happy I found this blog since I am for sure short-legged in proportion to my torso. I think that there are many famous sexy women with this problem (Keira, Hayden, Cristina Ricci...) but I disagree with so many others. Not having long legs doesn't mean you have short legs, you might have regular lenght legs like this Irina gal who btw looks awesome, but, c'mon, those are NOT short legs...
ReplyDeletehmmm, i suppose she does have quite a long torso, would you say mila kunis had a long torso too?? ive seen a few pictures and im not quite sure...
ReplyDeleteWell to be fair, this blog i think is more about proportionally short legs. The creator of this blog is tall herself, and it is very uncommon for a tall person to have actual short legs vs. just short for their height. so irina does not have short legs per se, she has normal length legs that are short for her height. same with marissa miller who was on here as well.
ReplyDeletealso, i was looking at pics of mila kunis and i found this semi candid shot which looks like she does have short legs. cool haha

it is NOT true that it's uncommon for tall women to have short legs! that's pretty funny actually since height does not factor into the ratio proportions of the human body. we are talking about ratio of thirds; upper = head to lower shoulders/upper chest, middle = torso, lower = legs/limbs. to figure out if a woman has long legs, or short legs, or average legs, her legs are measured against the rest of her body proportions. anyone of any height can have short legs if her upper and mid thirds are disproportionately longer to her legs. therefore, a woman who is 6 feet can have a long upper body and a long torso which would mean she has short legs. or a woman who is 5 feet can have a very short upper body and a short torso and therefore possess long legs. or a woman of any height can have da vinci's ideal body proportion where all thirds of her body are equal to one another which means her legs are average.
ReplyDeletethat's what i was saying! proportionally short legs is different from just "short" legs. a 5' person is much more likely to have "short" legs, whereas someone who is 6' will probably not have "short" legs, just proportionally short legs. that's kind of confusing, but i think we meant the same thing.
ReplyDeletethe two of you are speaking of the same thing and you guys seem to be in sync. a shorter woman will have shorter legs than a taller woman b/c TECHNICALLY of course a taller woman will have more leg inches uh b/c she's TALLER!! but isn't this stating the obvious and easy to understand? i know you get all this proportion and ratio thing but the way you write still seems to convey that short women have short legs like when you write, 'a 5' person is much more likely to have "short" legs whereas someone who is 6' will probably not have "short" legs, just proportionally short legs.' this is a bit confusing but i think what you are saying is the actual physical COMPARISON of taller women and shorter women. whereas the other writer seems to say, "hey, that's obvious, lets focus on leg lengths based on ratio regardless of height." but yes, i think you guys are agreeing about the same thing...??
ReplyDeletebtw, kate middleton has a really looong torso which she hides very well.
"hey, that's obvious, lets focus on leg lengths based on ratio regardless of height."
ReplyDeleteHowever, there is some limitation: if a short woman has proportionally very long legs, then her body is too short. How will she carry a baby then? Where is the space for her other important organs?
omg. are you serious? no human being has such a short torso that s/he can't have space for important organs. that's like saying someone can have such a long torso that there's no room for legs. you. are. hilarious.
ReplyDeleteWhere is Debbie Mazar? She is my girl!
ReplyDeleteSorry, it's Debi Mazar. Here are some pix for those of you who don't know her.

i also noticed the actress emily browning has rather short legs, but she is a cutie and she played in sucker punch and an unfortunate series of events :)

ReplyDeleteIrina and Marisa Miller do not have disproportionately short legs. They are perfectly proportionate. Imo their proportions are ideal for a woman. The modeling industry has shoved long-legged short torsoed women down our throats for so long that we think someone like Blake Lively is proportionate when she in fact has a short torso for her height. Look at this picture: http://www.celebuzz.com/photos/irina-shayk-flaunts-bikini-body-with-boyfriend-cristiano-ronaldo/4cristiano-ronaldo-irina-shayl-063011/?page=4&t=bikini
ReplyDeleteI really don't see the disproportion. I see it on people like Keira Knightley. I even see it on Bar Refaeli, however I really don't see it on Irina in that picture or many others that I've seen of her. Yes, she has a long torso but she's 5'9". Her legs are NOT normal length, they are longish.
Imo because we're used to seeing models with long legs and short torsos our perception is skewed. If Irina and Marisa are disproportionate than so are like 80% of women.
The comment above mine is bang on. Neither Irina nor Marisa are proportionately short legged. In fact, both are vertically balanced and because of their slim figures look quite leggy.
ReplyDeleteOne flaw in the above comment is the use of the word "disproportion". Keira Knighley may have a disproportionate ego, but her legs are normal. She would be classified as "short-legged, long-torsoed", which is one of the 3 vertical body types. Which likely means that about a third of women have these proportions. Therefore no disproportion.
If your site is called "Lady Short Legs" perhaps you should only focus on women who actually have short legs. And when you do, you shouldn't treat their leg length as flawed since they're completely normal.
