comments

I have had this blog only for a short while, and you my lovey readers have given me great tips, and wonderful words to strengtheng my body-image self-esteem, and for everyone reading too. Thanks!
Here are some particularly splendid comments:

"Come to think of it, no one - neither man nor woman - has ever commented on my short legs. However, they do see the slender waist. I guess that's what we get instead. No one is perfect, but everyone is beautiful."

"I don't think we're screwed if others have slightly shorter legs.... We should feel empowered as they are more people we can relate to that successfully conceal their disproportion. It doesn't really matter how long are legs are! It seems that short legged girls are everywhere and we're ruling! :)"

"Maybe we short legged ladies are more normal than we think and that no one really cares as much as we think they do."

"In a tall woman, a long waist is, I believe even perceived as being sexy and elegant, as the torso is the focus of most attention. Often, a very short waisted person looks rather unattractive and dumpy. "

"I just read about a woman who was lamenting her short torso/long legs. A body type similar to Bette Midler for instance. Where the breasts almost seem to start and end where the waist/pants begin. She said that long slender female torsos were frequently objects of art/sculptures in museums and almost all notably sexy Hollywood actresses/stars have that feature. Upon thinking about it, I think that this is true. There's always something good and bad about our bodies all around, don't you think?"

  1. Yey, you quoted me ("no one is perfect, but everyone is beautiful")! Glad you liked it, your blog has been an inspiration to me as well.

  2. It is nice to be quoted! I think the models, tall women out there are beautiful, don't get me wrong! But, that model look, as one fashion commenter I read, is really that of a silhouette/outline of a young slim long legged man with a feminine emphasis, boobs and hips. And the reality is the majority of women don't look like that.

While clothes and fashion may look better on the taller aesthetically, it absolutely does not help me decide what to wear every morning, or how to decipher what trends and fashion to suit me. I love how the internet and blogs are starting to help me do this and free me of the dictates of the fashion houses, magazines, and media -- and wherever that I'm living. That I think is the value of this blog. Because the comments and opinions of fashion bloggers, like Atlantis Home, Garance Dore, Sartorialist, etc. affect me and my fashion choices much more to me than anything I read in a Magazine or TV. Cindy Crawford is a beautiful woman, yes, but what she wears is as useless to me as the fashion choices of George Clooney.

  3. I agree with the commenter who said that most men aren't that focused on the length of women's legs. A look at men's magazines from Maxim to Playboy usually don't show super tall, long and lean model types.

Sometimes, I think it's what us, women, prefer or like in ourselves. Like long painted nails, eyebrow shapes/plucking, huge hooped earrings. All very intense intra-gender competition.

A guy friend once remarked to me that a short waisted girl often looked under developed to him kind of pre-pubescent girl. And it's true, while the limbs grow prior to puberty, it's during puberty that the torso grows and becomes more womanly. So, whether you agree or not, it's something to think about.

  6. Yes. Many said me "you have a beautiful body, very womanly". It's because my torso is curvy.
But my legs is shorter than majotity people who I saw and I hate to be taller than all when we are sat down, a despite I am short.
Happily, in my country there is not a cultured "long-leg beauty".

  7. Good comment Cacin!

  8. Where do you live, Cacin?

  9. Thanks Cacin. What does everyone think of Salma Hayek? She is a beautiful woman, with a great expressive face and eyes, and definitely not a model type body, but super sexy.

I don't know if her legs are that disproportionately short, but I know that in an industry where fashion is important, she does a pretty good job of dressing herself to her best advantage (probably with stylists' help).

Also check out the EXTRA video interview with her freaking out about the snake that's been circulating the internet? :)

  10. I really like this blog. I am a taller girl (just shy of 5' 8") but with average legs and a longer torso. Only tailors and a few people notice my shorter legs, but everyone compliments my slender waist and general thinness of my upper body.
Also, another very beautiful, stylish, and popular actress who never appears to be longer bodied, but clearly is, is Zooey Deschanel.

  11. Another gorgeous actress w/ short legs? Jacquelyn Smith.

  12. And Olivia Wilde (very short legs), and unbelievably, Megan Fox, who is deemed one of the sexiest women alive and is the poster girl for Armani lingerie. Look are real photos of her on the beach, not the ads (which are photoshopped).

Lady Short Legs, please add these ladies to your list. :) Such an inspiration to the rest of us.

  13. I think Megan Fox has perfect proportions like Kate Hudson. They both just have normal womanly proportions.

There are so many models, tall actress/models that we've become brainwashed into thinking that women are leggier than they really are. It's all the heels and the way that they're filmed.

  14. I agree, Anonymous, Salma Hayek is beautiful short woman. I don't know if her legs is shorts, but no longs.

  15. Wow, it's true. Both Kate Hudson and Megan Fox has shortish legs. I too thought (think!) they got the perfect figure...

  16. I disagree about Kate Hudson and Megan Fox having short legs, I think they have absolutely normal proportions. If you are going to compare them to supermodel proportions, then yes, they are a bit shorter proportion wise. But their proportions I think are the standard woman's proportions. I agree with the above commenter who states that we've become a bit brainwashed by the media about women's proportions.

  17. I browsed through some photos of Salma Hayek, and she appears to be well proportioned. Mexican women have short torso's and sort of longish legs, even though their overall height is tiny. That's why almost all Mexican women don't really have a waist line because their torso is jut so short, well at least the ones I see in California.

  18. To me she's got a body type similar, but not exactly the same, as Jessica Simpson. Or like Pink but with bigger boobs. And although, Jessica may be slightly more disproportionate, she often dresses terribly, wearing dresses that cut her off at the calf and bad jeans. While many Latin ladies have that body type you described. To me, Salma Hayek doesn't look like she has longish legs AT ALL to go with her shorter waist and overall tiny frame like you, I think correctly, say that many Latin women have. In other words, to me, Salma looks compact. She just dresses well.

Not a disagreement really just comparing opinions with you to see what you think.

  20. Do you think the lack of the waistline is because of the shortness of the torso, or because they lack hips or curves? If memory serves, some scientific journals refer to it as a hip/waist flare (i.e. body goes in significantly at the waist and then out again at the hips and butt) . It suppose to be highly attractive to men. And serves to let them know (along with boobs) that it's a reproductively ready female and not a pre -adolescent women. I know. This kind of information is interesting, but also kind of sad like we're all just a bunch of animals.

But, I digress. My point here is that I think many women, regardless of length of torso or height, can have a more straight boyish torso. And being overweight makes you lose that waist/hip flare, and it happens more obviously when you're shorter and have a short torso.

  22. Hello!
I'm 16 and I'm from France. I've just discovered your blog and I've read it at one go. I've personally done a lot of research about long torsos and short legs, having myself this type of body. I really appreciate your work, as it makes me feel way more comfortable, seeing gorgeous women with the same body shape as mine. I also have to thank you for the little advices, they're great and, combined altogether, they have a stunning effect!
Thanks a lot, and keep on this way ! ;)

  24. Yes, I have found a photo of Eva Longoria in swimsuit which confuses me : http://i.ivillage.com/BS/summerstyle/celebsinbikinis/eva-longoria.jpg
She seems to have short legs on this picture, but she usually looks long-legged.
I've also thought of the lead singer of a french group called Superbus, her name is Jennifer Ayache. Here are 2 photos :

  25. I,m 5"1 and I just came across this website. I have short legs and a long torso, my legs are definitely my least favorite feature of my body, just now coming across this site has made my day! My boyfriend has often compared my body to Leighton Meester's! She's definitely somebody who i would love to see on this website as she, as i believe, is one of the most beautiful girls in Hollywood yet she has a real girls body, which believe would boost a lot of girls confidence.

isn't this referring to Mexicans with at least some indignous blood? Salma Hayek is half Spanish and half Lebanese.
