Cheryl Cole and Celeb Insecurities

Update: We have a new photo as suggested by one reader, which better showcases Cheryl's proportions.
I came across a slide-show on British Glamour magazine, about celebrities and their insecurities, with quotes and photos. Some of them are relevant to our blog, including Shakira, Cheryl Cole, Mischa Barton, and Scarlette Johansson who talk of their short legs. Check it out here.

The photo above is of Cheryl Cole, she has a slight disproportion, not as strong as she sees it, I am sure. She wears very high heels constantly and it's difficult to find images where we can see her legs as they really are, but this one of her in flip-flops is good.
Cheryl was voted the sexiest woman in the world, and a few other titles including most photogenic.

She says "'I’ve got a new fondness for high-waisted jeans because they make my legs look longer.'

There is also a nice quote by Cheryl saying:
"If somebody sees a bit of cellulite on my legs that's been circled in a magazine and it makes them feel comfortable then I'm happy that I've made that one person at home go 'Cheryl's got cellulite, it's fine'. I do it myself. I flick through magazines and see Kate Moss has got cellulite and it makes me feel happier about myself. You can't help it."
We certainly do it here as well.

Georgie Thompson

Georgie is an English TV personality and sports presenter. She is an attractive female with a normal sized and voluptuous torso quite adored by sport fans, however below the reporting desk she has extremely short legs, almost dwarf like which are rarely viewed by the public. She is also just five feet tall and is "addicted to high heels"

Interestingly, she owns a dachshund, those long dogs with extremely short legs, and you know what they say about dog's and their owners...(they look alike, and that people unconsciously choose a dog that looks like them).

Nonetheless Georgie was voted as 52nd sexiest women alive by FHM magazine a few years ago.

kate hudson quote

A number of you have been of different opinion regarding Kate Hudson's proportions. I believe she is in fact disproportionate, and Kate herself has the same viewpoint. Here is a direct quote from an interview Kate Hudson gave for Harpers Bazaar magazine regarding her style:

"If there's a secret to her look, it is maintaining a steely resistance to trends. Her current no-no? Tapered jeans. ""Much as I like the way they look on women with long legs, my body does not look appropriate in tapered jeans. I have a long torso.""
(the quote is on the third page, in the second paragraph)

rosie o'donnell

Here is an amusing quote from Rosie O'donnell while attending the Martha Stewart show in 2009:

RO: [Sitting down] Look how much taller I am than you.
MS: I know!
RO: It’s because I have a very long torso.
MS: I need a couple of telephone books please.
RO: When my family would go to church when we were little, everybody would think, ‘oh, my god – they’re giants.’ And then we’d stand up and we’re pretty much the same height standing as we are sitting because I’ve got a 24 inch inseam…
MS: Mine’s like 40 [inches].
RO: Well, you’re a supermodel

Rosie's figure is not one to be particularly envious of, but she is still a very cool person, and that quote is hilarious.  Oh and of course Martha's legs are not 40 inches, perhaps 36.

keira knightley jeans

I just found a great quote from our Lady Short Legs queen Keira Knightley. It's from an article in a 2004 Cosmopolitan, a bit old to be considered news, but it's always relevant for us. Keira was nineteen at the time, and here is what she said:

"Jeans are always too long on me because I have a long torso and short legs, but Diesel makes great jeans for people with my body type. I also love Seven Jeans. They are unbelievable."

dwarfy jessica simpson

A while ago Jessica Simpson gave us an interesting quote saying she was born with "dwarf legs" and a long body, and her mother being so concerned, would pull and stretch them in an attempt to increase their growth in length.
"When I was little I had dwarf legs and my mum thought I would grow up looking strange. Every night, she would pull them and stretch them so they would be in proportion with the rest of my body."

Her mothers efforts may have helped a little but not significantly as she continues to have rather shortish legs, although to her advantage she does have a good face and large breasts to distract from her disproportion.

keira knightley quote

Here is the quote I was looking for:
"I've already been told my legs are stumpy. A designer whose dress I wanted to wear to a film premiere told me that my legs were far too short."

Our ultimate role model, I mean just notice where her butt ends, and she is wearing hight heels.

christina applegate

Here is a quote from an interview with Christina Applegate.

What's your beauty hang-up?
"I have short legs and it drives me crazy! I've got a really long torso and short legs. I can pull it off with the right jeans, but it's taken time to figure that out. There are people, like Cameron Diaz, who have incredibly long legs and you go, "Wow, how can you ever have a problem if you just wake up with long legs?!" I'd love to wake up to them one day, but it's just not going to happen! "

I browsed a lot of images of Christina, but I do not observe her to be that disproportional. Firstly I could not find any clear candid ones of her, or ones from the rear, a long torso is best observed from the back or side, and most difficult to notice from the front. In the old photo though one can see the long back from her shoulder to the underside of her bottom. Also her ankles are not very slim further making her legs stocky. However she is an attractive woman, and I must say reading her quote is comforting to us short legged ladies.

trinny woodall

Trinny Woodall, bravely admits her long torso/short legs combination, and gives great advice in the book What not to Wear. Recently in her blog, Trinny discussed her body and weight loss in the above beach photo:
"some Paparazzi took a picture of me coming out of the sea with admittedly good abs, the end of my legs covered by water (thank god as it didn't show how short they are)". Regarding her weight loss she credited it to the Pilates she has been doing " I have to say it has turned me from a pear to a column but still with short legs"
