Cheryl Cole and Celeb Insecurities

Update: We have a new photo as suggested by one reader, which better showcases Cheryl's proportions.
I came across a slide-show on British Glamour magazine, about celebrities and their insecurities, with quotes and photos. Some of them are relevant to our blog, including Shakira, Cheryl Cole, Mischa Barton, and Scarlette Johansson who talk of their short legs. Check it out here.

The photo above is of Cheryl Cole, she has a slight disproportion, not as strong as she sees it, I am sure. She wears very high heels constantly and it's difficult to find images where we can see her legs as they really are, but this one of her in flip-flops is good.
Cheryl was voted the sexiest woman in the world, and a few other titles including most photogenic.

She says "'I’ve got a new fondness for high-waisted jeans because they make my legs look longer.'

There is also a nice quote by Cheryl saying:
"If somebody sees a bit of cellulite on my legs that's been circled in a magazine and it makes them feel comfortable then I'm happy that I've made that one person at home go 'Cheryl's got cellulite, it's fine'. I do it myself. I flick through magazines and see Kate Moss has got cellulite and it makes me feel happier about myself. You can't help it."
We certainly do it here as well.

  1. I think she is beautiful. Her disproportion is not that obvious. I guess that at 5'3, her inseam is roughly 28 inches....

  2. You should do a post on Megan Fox. Look how long her torso is in this picture...and she is only 5'4:

  3. Ugh. I'm kind of getting tired of seeing celebs here at Lady Short Legs who DON'T HAVE SHORT LEGS. She is only mildly disproportionate, if she is at all. Exalting long torsos is not the same as showcasing women who have long torsos paired with short legs--when the two are nearly the same on too many LSL 'role models', I think the point of this site is lost.

  5. OK readers, point taken. I will be more diligent in the future. Would you prefer I take this post off?

  6. I can see why this is debatable...but she does have a tiny disproportion (it's just not as obvious). But it's there. I have similar proportions and when I tell friends that I have a long torso/short legs, they think I'm crazy, but I know I do! It's just that my disproportion isn't as obvious just like Cheryl's. And this is a great post otherwise. I love the link about celebrity insecurities. I think that any reader with body insecurities should take a look at the link and see that even the celebrities that they may look up to and consider perfect have similar body issues.

  7. LSL, I can see why you did a post on her. Take a look at this picture:

  8. Excellent work finding those photos, Thank you.

  9. Yes, her disproportion is more obvious in this one. Pretty girl, though.

  10. Yes, her disproportion is more obvious in this picture I found of her. LSL, what do you think of that picture of Megan Fox I posted above? i think her torso looks a bit long for her overall height. And these are some more:

I think that now it's kind of hard to see her true proportions because she is so skinny, which naturally makes her legs look a lot longer.

  11. Thanks, yes I have had multiple suggestions about megan fox, and I really will do a post about her very soon. Thanks again.

  12. LSL, what would be a "normal" inseam for someone who is 5'4?

  13. Her legs definitely look short here in relation to her torso. You are right to post it. I think with shorter women it is harder to say they have a long torso as such, because everything is tiny, but the main thing to look at with any one of any height is whether their legs look short overall and hers do. If you think about some one like Kylie or Dita von Teese, who are slightly shorter, you see that they are long-legged for their height and Cheryl is short-legged.

  14. I think we must remember we're talking relative not absolute disproportion, so I disagree about not including people with slight disproportions. We're not saying it's a bad thing, it's actually very common, and I think it's very helpful to see how celebrities with access to stylists and image consultants are able to made the most of their shapes. Thank you LSL for your posts:-)
BTW did you see recent Gwyneth Paltrow bikini (don't pay attention to the silly ridiculous title)
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1359325/Gwyneth-Paltrows-skinny-figure-Men-turned-skeletal-chic.htmlpics? She looks great, and is wearing flattering bikinis!

  15. Yes, I agree. Her disproportion isn't as severe...and if you think about it, everyone has a disproportion to some degree (either short torso/long legs or long torso/short legs)....very few are "absolutely" perfect, you know.

    ReplyDelete
  16. And so what I mean by that is that those who have an extremely slight disproportion are naturally likely to be considered close to perfect (balanced) proportions

  17. Yes, I agree about megan fox. take a look at how long her torso is:

Here's another example of Cheryl looking a bit out of proportion. And I've found pretty much everybody who Lady Short Legs posts is in possession of short legs COMPARED to longer torsos. That's what this blog is about. It says it under the title. If it was about just short legs there would be people like Kylie Minogue or Natalie Portman or other petite celebrities.

And for anybody saying this blog focuses on negative things, it certainly doesn't. It's a place for women with similar body types to feel better with themselves and to realise there are people out there like Cheryl Cole who have such proportions and still look great. Those with balanced bodies or long legs (the easier on the eye 'disproportion') will never be able to understand how it is possible to be so self conscious over this because it really affects everything we wear!

  19. Megan Fox is not disproportionate.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Well, I hope Megan Fox is not considered disproportionate bc I have very similar proportions to her (and the same height).. So I hope her proportions are considered balanced bc that would mean that I don't have the disproportions i have convinced myself i have! that would be like taking one of the biggest insecurities I have about my body away from me lol. But just do a search on her. There are many comments about her long torso and relatively short legs. Her torso is, undeniably, longish that don't quite match her legs...(But if she does her disproportion, it's definitely not as severe as some other women that are on here)

  21. Sorry, there was a typo on the last comment. I meant to say: But if she does have a disproportion*

  22. LSL, what inseam length % of overall height is considered "normal"?

  24. go on youtube and type in katie my beautiful face, and then you will realise how lucky your are just to have slight disproportions

  26. One way to see if someone has a proportionally long torso is to compare them to taller people when sitting down. Here is Megan Fox (5'4) sitting next to Cate Blanchett (5'8 1/2). When sitting down, they are practically the same height.
